What was your first meaningful connection to the world of climbing?

I have been spending time in the mountains since before my earliest memories, and I've understood the concept of climbing mountains since before I can remember. Perhaps I didn't start "climbing" until I was 11 years old, but in my mind there is a gradual continuum between hiking, scrambling, mountaineering and climbing. To me it is more a world of adventure in the mountains than a world of "climbing."
