Alpinist 37 features the first of part of the two-part Mountain Profile on K2: The Mountaineer's Mountain. Issue 37 outlines nearly a century of exploration and climbing on K2, starting with the mountain's naming in 1856 and ending with the peak's first ascent in 1954. Building this profile took hours of research, translation and a little bit of luck with the photography. While the editorial staff sifted through trip reports written in English, French, German and Italian, our photo editor was able to find a one of a kind cover photo thanks to Bob A. Schelfhout Aubertijn's quick eyes and attention to detail. Because of Schelfhout, the cover of Issue 37 features a one hundred and ten-year-old photo, one of the earliest known photos of K2.
