Still Life with Alpenglow In addition to hosting a collection of John Svenson’s vibrant interpretations of the alpine (both on the cover and as a feature), this issue is a platform for artist Samuel Johnson’s arachnoid depiction of Alaska’s Neacola Mountains. My painting style is born of chaos, organically developing forms as opposed to purposeful progression dominating each piece, strong lines and colors usually complemented by empty space…My art is far more internally provoking for people who are more directly in touch with their own unresolved psychological issues (not surprising in that I am trying to finish up a Ph.D. in psychology), including myself…As an alpinist, mountains fill me with ambitions, doubts, hopes, and remind me of other areas in my life that spark those same feelings. So I don't try to directly replicate features I observe in the mountains, rather indirectly emulate them through the lens of my own feelings. –Samuel Johnson See more of Johnson’s work at avidabstracts.com, and Svenson’s at extremedreams.com.
