Petzl is recalling 40,000 GRIGRI 2s, after it was discovered that when high force is exerted on the handle, one of its components can break, jamming the GRIGRI 2 in the open position. Petzl has been able to replicate this malfunction in-house. While no injuries have been reported, Petzl reports that seven units have broken during use in the field.
This recall only effects GRIGRI 2s whose serial numbers begin with numbers between between 10326 and 11136. In all 40,000 units are affected globally. All GRIGRI 2s outside of this range have already been fitted with reinforced components. Petzl will cover all shipping and replacement costs.
