FOREST OF YOSEMITE rang with Mort's folk music, his lovely baritone voice accompanied by his six- and twelve-string guitars. Around many campfires in Camp 4, the rock climbers of the Golden Age had Mort as their bard.

The blond Dane was also a brilliant climber. He partnered with Chuck Pratt in 1961, for the first ascent of Crack of Doom. That same year, with Dave Rearick, he made the first ascent of Split Pinnacle Lieback, among the first 5.10 climbs in the country.
